Born in Astana, Kazakhstan, in 1992, Dr. Aliya Sembayeva earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Nazarbayev University in 2015. She pursued advanced studies in the United Kingdom, completing an MSc by Research in Chemistry at the University of Birmingham in 2017, followed by a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Liverpool in 2021.

Dr. Aliya Sembayeva’s professional journey includes diverse roles in academia and industry and public service. She began her career in 2016 as a tutor in organic chemistry at the University of Birmingham, later serving as a teaching assistant at Nazarbayev University and the University of Liverpool. Dr. Aliya Sembayeva has also held various leadership positions, including Director of the Innovation and Knowledge Management Department at Samruk-Kazyna, CEO of Center for Scientific and Technological Initiatives Ltd., and ESG Director at Samruk-Kazyna.

Dr. Aliya Sembayeva has served as an Independent Member of the Board of Directors of the Science Fund since, a Member of the Board of Directors at Center for Scientific and Technological Initiatives Ltd., and a Member of the Supervisory Board of Samruk-Kazyna Business Service. Since 2023, she has been a Member of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Eurasian Integration.
