Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan
Aleška Simkić is the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan since September 2024.
Previously, she was the Head of Cabinet of the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management (since 2021). In this role, she supported the Commissioner in coordinating humanitarian aid and civil protection files.
Before that, she served as Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Russia (2018-2021).
Between 2015 and 2018, she was Deputy Chief Monitor in the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, the largest OSCE mission to date, responsible for monitoring and reporting on the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
During her career in the Slovenian diplomatic service, she primarily focused on multilateral issues involving the UN, OSCE, and the Council of Europe.

2014-2015 – Worked as a Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister of Slovenia.

2003-2006 – Served in the Slovenian Delegation to the OSCE in Vienna during Slovenia’s OSCE Chairmanship.

2006-2008 – Served in the Slovenian Delegation to the UN in New York during Slovenia’s EU Presidency.

2008-2011 – Worked as a Special Adviser to the Director of OSCE ODIHR in Warsaw.
Additionally, she participated as a political analyst in several election observation missions, including in Ukraine, Albania, and the Russian Federation.
