Janne Heiskanen assumed his post as the Ambassador of Finland to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in September 2024. He transferred to the post from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki, where he headed the European Common Foreign and Security Policy Team at the Unit for Security Policy and Crisis Management since 2021. Prior to this, Heiskanen served as Head of Finland’s Liaison Office in Minsk in 2017–2021. His career in the Diplomatic Service also includes posts in the Embassies of Finland in Jakarta and Kabul.

Heiskanen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2009. Prior to joining the Ministry, he served in various positions at international organizations and development banks including the OSCE, UNDP, IOM and EBRD in Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences.
